Standards
Introduction
Reading is seen as a basis for learning other subjects, as being able to read and understand text fluidly unlocks the information presented to students. The Master’s Project in question aims to increase almost all aspects of the ELA curriculum to ensure that the measured results are not solely due to the nature of one standard over another. This allows for the effectiveness of autonomy to be measured and compared for reading, writing, and presentation for the students. It is therefore appropriate to look at the majority of the ELA standards for fourth grade, as this project will cover multiple units of the school year.
Reading Literature
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.4.1
Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.

Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text; summarize the text.
